This week I watched “Most Likely to Succeed,” which is a film about education in the United States and explores new approaches to learning. The film goes into detail about the creation of our current system, which was created during the industrial revolution. Much has changed in our world since then, but our education system’s have been slow to adapt. Teachers and students are capable of much more than they are being lead to believe. Below is the trailer:
Most Likely to Succeed is a film that every teacher and aspiring teacher should watch. Orientation day for the teaching program should begin by watching this, and eating popcorn, skittles, and a large Coke (of course).
My biggest takeaway is that everyone learns differently and the system we currently have doesn’t necessarily give room for this. Students graduate with few 21st century skills that they can apply to their daily lives. As educators we need to look at the way we are teaching and interacting with our students in a way that enhances learning and understanding.
