Like golf video games, golfing movies have also made their way onto the screen. There are serious movies that talk about golfs origins. There are documentaries, love stories, etc. etc. My all time favourite is Happy Gilmore. You can rent Happy Gilmore on YouTube, or watch with on Netflix. The trailer is below:
This movies stars Adam Sandler who is a wannabe professional hockey player. He discovers his talent for golf and after learning that his grandmother will lose her house, he joins a golf tournament in an attempt to win enough money to buy her home for her. Happy Gilmore is famous for his ‘slap-shot’ golf shot. He runs up to the ball and hits it as if he has shooting a hockey puck. Every golfer has tried this shot before, because of Happy Gilmore. Next time you’re at the driving range, give this one a go.
Last year was Happy Gilmore’s 25th anniversary. The tweet below shows Adam Sandler and Christopher McDonald (Happy Gilmore’s nemesis in the film) playing a virtual match. It was virtual because of Covid-19, of course.
