Golf Video Games

Since I was old enough to remember, I loved video games. As with most people, my tastes changed with time and with interests. I generally gravitate towards sports games. I purchased every almost every FIFA, NHL, and NBA game that became available year after year. Until recently the only golf game that I had played was Wii Sports Golf. It was fun, interactive, and an exciting introduction to golf games. Some of the other golf games that I have played are Mario golf: Super Rush (Nintendo Switch), PGA Tour 2K21 (Xbox One), and Clubhouse Games Golf (Nintendo Switch). All of the games have different skill levels, target audiences, and online options. All of them are fun in their own ways.

Wii Sports Golf
Wii Sports Golf

On the Wii Sports game, golf is one of the 5 sports that you can play. You aim your swing, swing the wii remote and watch the ball fly down the fairway. This game is simple, easy to play, and a fun introduction to golf. Like all of the Wii Sports games, you can play with just a flick of the wrist. I have spent many hours playing this with friends and by myself.

PGA Tour 2K21
PGA Tour 2K21

PGA Tour 2K21 is one of the most realistic golf games I have played. You can create a player who competes on the PGA Tour, signs sponsorship deals, and wins events. You get to play on all the famous courses that the tour pros get to play on during the year. You can spend time on the driving range and test out different clubs. You also have the ability to create your own full golf course. You can play with friends online or locally but competing individually on the PGA Tour is it’s main selling point. This game requires a lot of practice to play well and even after almost a year of playing, I’m still learning some of the controls.

Club House Games: Golf
Club House Games: Golf

Club House Games is a game on the Nintendo Switch that has 51 classic games from around the world. Card games, board games, table games, etc. Everything from curling to piano. One of my favourite games is the golfing one. It is the most simple of the golf games I have played. You pick between a driver, wedge, or putter, aim your shot and then swing when the meter reaches your desired power. You can play 3 or 9 holes against up to 3 people. Its simplicity makes it fun to play with friends and doesn’t require a lot of skill or knowledge of golf.

Mario Golf: Super Rush

Mario Golf: Super Rush is somewhat similar to Wii Golf. It is much more realistic than Wii Golf but has similar controls. After aiming the shot, swing the Switch remote and watch the ball fly towards the hole. The Switch remote is much more accurate and makes it more difficult to hit a good shot but also makes it more fun. There are many different game modes on Mario Golf. Target practice, challenges, and a version called Super Rush. In this version you hit the ball and then chase after it. Similar to Mario Kart, you are trying to finish first. You run towards your ball getting power ups for your swing. You get points for how many strokes it takes to finish as well as finishing the ball in the hole before your opponent. This game has a relatively short learning curve and doesn’t require much golf knowledge. This is a great game to play on your own and with friends.

Golfing has been around for centuries. It was only a matter of time before it joined the virtual world. There are thousands of golf games online, but these are my favourites, so far.
