Why Golf?

I grew up playing almost every sport I could get my hands on. I eventually settled on soccer and have played for the last 19 years. I am from the Okanagan Valley, home to world famous orchards, vineyards, and golf courses that all the NHL players come to in their off-season. By the time I was a teenager soccer took up most of my life and I rarely had time to do much else, especially learn a new sport. My first real introduction to golf, like most people, was mini golf. My wife and I go mini golfing more than we’d like to admit and it get’s VERY competitive.

Inside the World of Professional Mini Golf

After randomly discovering the interesting world of professional mini golf (video above), a YouTube rabbit hole brought me to even more golf content. The more I clicked, the more they appeared. I began watching and I couldn’t stop. What started on YouTube grew into a fascination with the sport. I now play as often as I can. I watch the PGA Tour when it’s on my TV, follow the Masters every year, and find myself at the driving range more and more. I have seen a lot of improvement over the last year or so, and I want to challenge myself to grow even more. There always seems to be a big improvement early on and then not much improvement for a while. Golf is hard and it is often difficult to see the progress, but as Phil Mickelson says, “the biggest challenge to getting better at anything is learning to love the plateaus.”

For this inquiry project I will be documenting my journey as a new golfer. My progress, YouTube videos I have watched to improve, exciting things happening in the world of golf, and any other golf content I feel is interesting and beneficial.

Join me in my journey.
